Best Quiet Keyboards for Zoom Meetings
I researched the top 10 “best quiet keyboards” lists to see if there was a consensus amongst the press on what keyboard actually reigns supreme for quiet typing during your business Zoom calls.
This is important because working from home and participating in Zoom meetings can be difficult when your keyboard is too loud. For example, it is important to have a quiet keyboard for web conferencing because loud typing can be distracting to others on the call. A quiet keyboard can help cut down on background noise and make the conference call sound better overall.
The Best Quiet Keyboards
What “best” means could be different for different people. Today we’re going to assume you’re a remote worker who wants to take notes discreetly while on a Zoom or MS Teams call, even if you’re not always muted. Searching for “best quiet keyboard” on Google immediately showed that this mattered to many different use cases. Gamers, streamers, streamers, and gamers all came up. OK, well, not so many different people. A quiet keyboard clearly really matters to gaming streamers, though. After all, they’re actively playing video games (sometimes frantically) while also speaking on the microphone to their audience. That’s a lot like typing while speaking during a web conference, no? Just like video game streaming, speaking on a web call while typing could be annoying to listeners.
Searching for Quiet Keyboards
I performed a simple Google search for “best quiet keyboards” in early December 2022 and reviewed the top-ranked listicles to find out what the internet is recommending. My search turned up 15 articles (see references at the end) about the best quiet keyboards. I copied out the names of all of the keyboards mentioned into a spreadsheet and cleaned the list to make sure wherever the same model keyboard was mentioned, I captured it. Then, I counted how many unique models, and brands of keyboards were mentioned and how often.
Suffice it to say, there are a lot of options available. While there was no totally dominating presence, several keyboards showed up repeatedly. Here’s what I found:
Results
Out of all these articles, I found 119 mentions of 79 unique keyboards from 44 brands. The Top 10 most-mentioned keyboards accounted for nearly a third (39/119) of the total picks and included quiet keyboards from 6 different manufacturers (Razer, Logitech, Arteck, Corsair, Jelly Comb, and Steel Series).
The runaway favorite, if you can call 6 total mentions runaway, was the Razer Blackwidow Elite Quiet Keyboard, followed by the Logitech K780 with 5 mentions. My own gaming choice, the Corsair K55 made the list with 4 mentions at number 4, and I was slightly surprised that my office choice, the Logitech MX Keys only got a single mention in 15 articles. I personally love it, but now I’m curious about some of the other options.
Interestingly, all the top 10 keyboards were traditional QWERTY keyboards. The highest-ranked ergonomic keyboard barely made the top 20 at 18 out of 79.
